TECHNOLOGY

We combine 3D printing technology with clinical expertise to create unique solutions that transform lives.

The osteobionix Process

A legacy of Research & Development

We have been at the forefront of biomedical materials and advanced implant manufacturing for over a decade. Our expertise in porous metal scaffolds for bone regeneration, metal 3D printing, and advanced osteoconductive structures dates back to well before osteobionix was founded in 2018. Still within ITC, in 2010, we acquired one of the first commercially available titanium 3D printers in the world, paving the way for patient-specific bone reconstruction implants tailored to individual anatomical and functional needs.

OUR TECHNOLOGIES

Innovative technologies for improved clinical results

Our research and development efforts have led us to focus on some key technological pillars that redefine bone and joint reconstruction, such as:

Biomimetic, osteoconductive titanium scaffolds

Engineered to mimic natural bone structure, these scaffolds combine ultra-high porosity (up to 90%) with exceptional mechanical properties. The result is a material that behaves mechanically like bone, optimizing load distribution and promoting bone regeneration through enhanced cell adhesion and vascularization.

Flexible titanium structures

Designed to replicate the biomechanical properties of non-rigid musculoskeletal tissue, these structures offer greater compliance and adaptability, making them ideal for dynamic implants. A patented technology that bridges the gap between rigid metal implants and the natural movement of the human body.

Easier and safer fixation mechanisms

A patented polyaxial locking screw mechanism self-aligns plate and screw threads. A technology that helps reduce complications from misalignment, which can be a challenge in fracture fixation, and improves both surgical flexibility and implant longevity.

The osteobionix Process

Custom implant workflow

At osteobionix, every patient-specific implant follows a rigorous, collaborative process to ensure optimal fit, function and surgical success. Our workflow integrates surgeons’ clinical expertise, advanced engineering and quality management.

Starting with case assessment and imaging, surgeons provide key clinical insights while our team contributes with technical expertise. Together, we refine the surgical plan, implant design and validation, ensuring the best possible outcome. After manufacturing and quality control, the process culminates in the surgical procedure, where innovation meets patient care.

1. Case Evaluation

The surgeon and osteobionix assess the patient’s condition to determine the need for a custom implant solution.

2. CT Image Transfer

The surgeon provides high-resolution CT scan images of the affected area for precise digital modeling.

3. Clinical Briefing

The surgeon outlines the clinical case details, objectives, and specific surgical requirements.

4. Surgeon’s Prescription

The surgeon prescribes the implant specifications and any additional surgical considerations.

5. Image Segmentation

Osteobionix processes the CT scans to isolate and define the relevant anatomical structures.

6. 3D Anatomy Modeling

A detailed 3D representation of the patient’s anatomy is generated to guide the design process.

7. Surgical Planning

Osteobionix and the surgeon collaborate to define the optimal surgical approach and implant positioning.

8. Implant/Instrument Design

Engineers and surgeons work together to develop a custom implant and any necessary surgical instruments.

9. Design Analysis and Validation

The implant design undergoes biomechanical analysis and validation to ensure optimal performance and safety.

10. Surgeon’s Approval

The surgeon reviews and approves the final implant design before manufacturing.

11. Manufacturing

Osteobionix utilizes advanced 3D printing and machining technologies to produce the custom implant.

12. Quality Control

Rigorous testing and inspections are performed to ensure the implant meets safety and regulatory standards.

13. Regulatory documentation

Osteobionix prepares the necessary documents to meet medical and legal requirements.

14. Shipping

The final implant and instruments are securely packaged and shipped to the hospital in time for surgery.

15. Surgical Briefing

A final discussion between osteobionix and the surgical team ensures all details are understood before the procedure.

16. Surgery

The surgeon performs the procedure using the custom implant, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
